Peachboy

Peachboy is a 5-piece instrumental rock band in Chicago, IL. They work exclusively in a studio setting, and incorporate a healthy amount of production in their releases.

Gwen Brooks - percussion
Brooks grew up in Marion, IL and worked at The Tin Rose - a jazz music venue owned and operated by her older brother. She was the 'permanent roadie' for the space; providing most of the audio support & mixing for guest musicians and was frequently invited to add percussion when soloists took the stage. About her time there, she said: "...everyone who came through taught me something". After The Tin Rose closed in 2017, Brooks moved to Evanston and met Peachboy bassist Rachel Courin.

Rachel Courin - bass:
A Chicago native, Rachel studied undergrad at the Pritzker School of Medicine while performing in the band Coughka. Her hobby of music became harder to ignore when her parents purchased a small recording studio in disrepair (which would later become Volt Age; Peachboy's home base). Courin finished her degree while working part-time in a record store: "That was my second education," she laughs. "... I fell in love with the local labels like Thrill Jockey and always put on Tortoise LPs when I opened the shop".

Feebee North - keyboards & production:
Feebee is a self-declared "Army brat"; relocated from Minneapolis by way of Germany. North would frequently take apart and experiment with used keyboards from thrift stores and record demos on her laptop as Hercule.
An avid skateboarder, Feebee would often write freelance articles for Thrasher magazine - but under a pseudonym. "I try to get more press for women in the skate scene, but it's a tough sell; we don't break as many bones as the guys, so they still end up getting most of the attention".

Meghan Saunders - drums & additional percussion:
Meghan has been 'in the sticks' since her high school marching band days. Daughter of veteran session-drummer Alvin "Al" Saunders, she went to school at Northern Illinois University to explore steel band and jazz ensemble to round out her skills. She performed with Rachel Courin in the band Coughka, which she refers to as "an 18-month, art-house fever-dream". She lives in Albany Park with her fiancé Mark and their lab/beagle 'Pocket'.

Lucy Wa - guitars:
Wa moved from San Fransisco into a full music scholarship through DePaul University. Lucy met Feebee North by complete chance: "I was on the CTA headed to the airport with my guitar case and I saw (North) sitting there with a portable keyboard on her lap. She must have thought I was following her because we ended up on the same flight to San Fran with seats right next to each other -- we talked the entire time and agreed to get back in touch when we returned to Chicago, and within a few months we were recording demos."
